The hype was insane.... That game was called Rise of the Robots, and although it was initially designed for the Amiga, it quickly spread to about every other platform in sight. We had Rise of the Robots Amiga, Rise of the Robots Sega Genesis, Rise of the Robots SNES, Rise of the Robots CDi, Rise of the Robots 3DO, Rise of the Robots on PC, even Rise of the Robots on the Game Gear... of all consoles. The problem was, it turned out to be an absolute turd. They lied to us through the power of marketing. In this video, I'll explore the story and just why Rise of the Robots was such utter baubles. Here's an easy tip to cut down tension in your classical guitar playing. Simply ask yourself if you could use less energy. If you halve the amount of energy you use fretting that chord, you'll automatically reduce tension in your body. You just have to ask the question. Can I use half the energy here? #classicalguitarshed #classicalguitar #guitar #music #practice #classicalmusic #lessenergy #light #lesseffort #easyplay #halftheenergy #tension

The Russia-NATO-Ukraine War has changed the world order. It is not World War Three and it is not just a regional border dispute between Russia and Ukraine. The Western countries, led by the USA and NATO, implemented widespread economic, diplomatic and cultural sanctions against Russia. But these sanctions did not turn out as planned. Nor have the military conflicts in Ukraine developed as NATO and Ukraine hoped. Notably the war has stimulated the BRICS nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa - and their friends across the Global South to pursue more independent foreign policies. So has begun the 'Global Wars of Independence' that may dominate out news streams for the next decade as the multipolar world takes shape. In this commentary video, Jeff Rich of the Burning Archive argues that these diplomatic declarations of independence from American leadership are as much the defining event of the year and the next decade, as the military war in Ukraine itself. Check out my playlists for other videos on history, geopolitics and culture, including my series of podcasts covering the first six months of the Russia-NATO-Ukraine War. In the last episode we built up my custom titanium hardtail mountain bike, which was made according to an exhaustive list of specifications. At the end of the build I immediately got sick and could not ride, so in this video I actually take the bike out and give my thoughts on it. I worked with Dave from Sage to design this bike. It was a lot of sending measurements back and forth, sending photos, pictures of tape measures, videos, etc. We went through several versions and worked through all the details, like ensuring the front tire would clear the downtube, and ensuring my seatpost would fully insert and end up at the perfect ride heigh when extended to 150mm. It's easy to find a 27.5 bike that fits me, but not a 29er. In the realm of 29ers, the Sage Powerline was already pretty close to what I wanted, since it has a pretty short reach and a nimble geometry for covering ground—I just wanted it to be a little more aggressive, but not TOO aggressive to where it's just a plow. So we ended up with a little longer reach and chainstay than stock, also an increased wheelbase and shorter standover height. If it wasn't for Dave at Sage, I would have messed up the geometry pretty bad. I'm a part owner of Clik. Carbide lamps work by reacting calcium carbide with water to produce acetylene gas, which burns with a very bright white flame. Introduced at the turn of the century, carbide lamps were widely used for home lighting, bicycle and automobile headlamps, miners' lamps, and lighthouses. They are still used today by a dedicated subculture of spelunkers (cave explorers), providing among the highest light-for-weight ratio of any lamp until the development of LEDs. Civilizations develop in all kinds of environments including oceans and coasts. 'Western' civilization developed out of the trade, diplomacy and military networks of the North Atlantic, and especially ideas about Anglo-American dominance in the world and the special role of NATO after World War Two. This video sets out the innovative idea of civilizations as a relationship between human societies to their diverse environments. It is drawn from Felipe Fernàndez-Armesto's Civilizations - which you can buy here https://amzn.to/3UxqAj9. There are many more cradles of civilization than you might first think. Please also check out my video on Felipe Fernàndez-Armesto's Civilizations in the playlist. In this video I look at the North Atlantic civilization, often called the 'West', and closely linked to the role of America and Britain in the 20th century. The video looks at the outbreak of Western Europe across the Atlantic in the 15th century, and even revisits Felipe Fernàndez-Armesto's Civilizations prophecy of the strains placed on NATO and the Erupean Union by the bombing of Serbia in 1999 - an event that continues to ripple through geopolitics today with the Russia-NATO-Ukraine war. When you're practicing changing chords, don't waste valuable time deciding which finger to put down first. Strummed or plucked, chords are nearly always played from the lowest note up. So fret the thickest string first. The other fingers can follow. Simple. #classicalguitarshed #guitar #music #tools #musician #lefthandtips #technique #chordchanges #fingering

The experience closes on January 27th at 11:59pm PST and I promise, you don’t want to miss this! In this video I'm talking about the crazy journey of Artemis 1 and why it took such a weird route to the moon. Getting to the Moon is no easy task. In fact, despite the Moon being 500 times closer, it takes more energy to land on the Moon than it does to land on Mars. Every rocket that goes to the Moon aims to follow the most energy efficient route (depending on the mission.) The goal with Artemis 1 for example, was to send the Orion capsule around the Moon to test out all of its systems. The goal with the Apollo missions however, was to land humans on the Moon and return them to Earth. So why did Artemis 1 take such a weird route to the Moon? Stick around and find out. Short on time? No problem. Feel free to skip ahead in this video using the chapter links below. 00:00 The Journey of Artemis 1 00:31 How to Get to the Moon 01:18 What is Delta V? 02:33 Apollo Moon Missions 03:52 How the Moon Captured Orion 06:41 How Did Orion Return to Earth? Free sheet music library: https://classicalguitarshed.com/music Free tutorials: https://classicalguitarshed.com/cgs-archives Structured classical guitar course: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership Are you learning classical guitar or would like to learn classical guitar? ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. There have been many 'cradles of civilization' - including the highlands of Central and Southern America where the Aztecs and Incas built great cultures. In this video I look at the Incas and Aztecs of Mesoamerica, and how these two very different cultures adapted the highland environmental niches in unique ways.
