Bewoners en ondernemers zijn helemaal klaar met de overlast door onder meer verslaafde daklozen in de Haarlemmerbuurt. Deze week werd er door de gemeente cameratoezicht ingesteld, maar lang niet iedereen vindt dat voldoende. Ook donderdagochtend was het weer raak in de buurt. Volgens getuigen moesten agenten iemand aanhouden in een supermarkt. "Het was weer bal he", zei horeca-ondernemer Menno Visser tegen een paar buurtbewoners. Het is zeker niet de eerste keer dat hij het mis zag gaan. "Onze klanten op het terras worden lastiggevallen. Het bier wordt weggepakt. Sigaretten worden weggepakt. Er wordt continu om geld gevraagd. En als je dat niet geeft, word je uitgescholden." Straatmanager Sheila Prommenschenckel kreeg van een supermarkt op de Haarlemmerdijk te horen dat daar ongeveer tien incidenten per dag zijn. "In de zomer is het altijd erger, moet ik zeggen. Maar het lijkt dit jaar wel erger dan de jaren daarvoor." Ze hoopt dat het cameratoezicht preventief werkt. "Maar als het preventief hier werkt, waar gaan mensen dan heen? Dus het wordt wel een beetje een waterbedeffect. En dat vind ik wel een beetje zorgelijk, voor een stad als Amsterdam." Visser denkt dat het cameratoezicht alleen nog onvoldoende is. Meanwhile, Israeli military forces on Saturday detained over 70 Palestinians in raids across the occupied territory. This follows the killing of at least four Palestinians in the village of Tal on Friday, when Israeli settlers and soldiers opened fire on residents attempting to protect their homes; two Israelis were also killed. According to Eurostat, rents have increased by 12.5% between June 2020 and June 2025.
