On Wednesday, Congressmember Joaquin Castro questioned Colonel Justin Gorkowski of the U.S.'s "Haiti Gang Suppression Force Tiger Team" about a Human Rights Watch report from March. The prototype recently surfaced online and got quite a bit of media attention but Mr Roșca has been working on this invention for more than a decade. So why does this car "walk" instead of moving like every other car out there? The car walks because vehicles move in a linear manner. Think about it, we convert the linear motion of a piston to the rotational motion of the crankshaft, and the transmission and the differentials, driveshafts, and wheels and then we convert that again to the linear motion of the vehicle itself. Now, The Rosmar H has no engine, it has no electrical motors, it has no transmission or differential of any kind and uses zero gasoline and zero batteries save for a conventional lead acid 12v battery. Yet it allegedly has a top speed of 600kmh and it accelerates to 100kmh per hour in 0.3 seconds. I know it sounds absolutely insane but I think that the 100km/h in 0.3 seconds is actually possible. On the other hand I think the 600kmh top speed is absolute nonsense. We’re going to crunch some numbers later. Now the entire car is based around this, which is basically an air cylinder. What’s important about this pneumatic cylinder is that it’s double acting. When I release air and send air to this side of the piston it pushes the piston that way, and when I release air on the other side of the piston it of course pushes the piston in the opposite direction. All we have to do is keep repeating this to get movement. As you can tell, this is a compressed air car. That’s why it doesn’t have an engine, or motors, or batteries. The only thing it needs is compressed air. Zero emissions. Well yes, but compressed air cars have been tried before. Many times. Even by big names like Tata and Peugeot and many others. Many of the projects received millions of dollars of financial backing. But in the end they all failed. But the Rosmar does one important thing completely differently from all of the compressed air cars. The mistake that all other compressed air cars made is that they used engines. Some had multi stage pistons, others tried funky vane engines, but they all used some form of engine. When you release compressed air into an engine it acts just like combustion. It expands. As it expands it drives the piston down. When we compress air we do work on the air, we increase the number of air molecules in the same space which causes more of them to bump against each other more often. This work done on the air increases the potential energy in the system which we measure as heat. When we release the compressed air to drive the piston the air expands and uses up its potential energy which means that the temperature must drop. And it does, it drops very rapidly. This is something called expansion cooling. We use this property of gases in refrigerators, air conditioning and other devices. But in an engine expansion cooling is a problem. When air cools down it becomes more dense, it shrinks and that means that the pressure drops. Expansion decreases. We don’t want less pressure, we want more pressure because we use pressure of the expanding air to drive the piston down. If there’s less of it we extract less work from the energy stored in our tank which means less power and less range. This is one of the reasons why all previous compressed air cars had pathetic driving range. But this is where the Rosmar concept really shines. All the other compressed cars had engines which doesn’t just mean all the moving parts and friction and maintenance….it also means that every piston stroke is very short. To cover the distance of one car the average engine will do roughly 50 to 100 piston strokes. The Rosmar can do it with one. Because each stroke takes more time and space it gives the expanding air the opportunity to absorb heat from its environment which offsets most of the negative effects of expansion cooling. Het gaat om het eerste grote evenement van de vandaag gestarte World Pride. De deelnemers verzamelen zich vanaf 11.00 uur op de Dam, waar een aantal toespraken plaatsvinden. Ongeveer een uur later zullen ze gezamenlijk naar het Vondelpark lopen. Het park heet vanaf het Pride Park. De stoet loopt via het Rokin, de Vijzelstraat, de Weteringschans, de Museumbrug en de Stadhouderskade. Greenvale hosted the so-called Rombout Horse Show every year in May; part of the show may be seen in the film. The movie shows a large group of people riding horses cross country, presumably some of them are students from Vassar College. One part of the group has a lot of dogs, possibly for flushing out game as part of a hunt. At 5:27, shots of puppies on the farm being taken care of by a Black farm hand, and being taken for a walk. At 8;25 another ride is shown, here horses are shown jumping a fence or gate and at 10:00 a low wall. At 12:00 a large house is shown, the Roxeby estate also known as La Bergerie in Dutchess County, New York, followed by images of men in formal riding clothes on horseback riding and at 14:43 jumping a fence in rapid succession. A youth-led protest movement in India is demanding an end to the country’s status quo. Sparked by the leak of national exam questions, tens of thousands of young people have taken to the streets. Although the protesters’ initial demands were for the resignation of the country’s education minister, “everything has shifted to directly attacking [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi,” says Indian writer Arundhati Roy, who says the erosion of democratic principles under Modi’s right-wing Bharatiya Janata (Indian People’s) Party is being contested on a large scale for the first time.

But this makes a mystery of how one affects the other, and many have sought to get rid of the two substances in favour of a single underlying stuff of the universe. The Western scientific tradition has favoured the physical, often denying the self altogether, while idealists and some Eastern traditions have focused on consciousness, sometimes denying the physical. But in a world with a single sort of 'stuff', be it physical or mental, human experience becomes inexplicable since it requires both a subject that has experience and something other that is experienced. Do we have to accept that a single substance, both in its materialist Western form, or in its Eastern idealist form, is mistaken? Should we return to dualism or adopt a Buddhist stance of abandoning all categories in favour of flux and process? In het jaar 1976 in Snackbar 2000 in Noord zou het allemaal zijn ontstaan: het beroemde patatje oorlog. De 15-jarige Dick vroeg vriend en snackbarmedewerker Robbie om een wonderlijke combinatie. "Doe mij maar een patatje met mayonaise, flink wat satésaus en uitjes erop. Hij zegt: wat nou?" Eén grote kledderzooi, werd het volgens Dick. Hij herinnert zich het moment in de patatzaak op het Zonneplein nog goed. "Klere, Dick, het lijkt wel oorlog!'', zou medewerker Robbie hebben geroepen. En zo ontstond de naam. ''Tuurlijk kan iedereen dit zeggen", erkent de nu 65-jarige Amsterdammer, ''maar dit is wat ik in geheugen heb." Frituurhistoricus Ubelski, zelfbenoemd 'fritoricus', weet het echter zeker: Dicks verhaal snijdt hout. "Ik zit al dertig jaar in de snackbarjournalistiek. Ik ben nog nooit iemand tegengekomen die zegt: ik heb het patatje oorlog bedacht." Ubelski acht het verhaal van Dick voor 99 procent zeker. Ook omdat het patatje negen jaar later in Het Parool, hoewel bij een andere snackbar, voor het eerst in Amsterdam gemeld wordt. "En dus heeft Rotterdam de kapsalon, maar Amsterdam nu het patatje oorlog.'' Dat je tegenwoordig overal in Nederland een zak oorlog kan bestellen daar heeft Dick niet zo'n mening over. "Op het moment dat je het betaalt, denk je daar niet over na. Je denkt gewoon: 'Ik vind dat lekker.' En zo gaat dat." 'Gewoon leuk' vindt de uitvinder het wel. Robbie en hij stonden in Tuindorp dus aan de geboorte van een landelijke klassieker. ''Naderhand kwam ik altijd terug bij de snackbar. Dan riep ik: 'Robbie, patatje oorlog!' Koningin Máxima opent WorldPride Met een druk op de knop opende koningin Máxima in het Pride Park vanmiddag de World Pride. "Hou elkaar vast, steun elkaar en geniet ervan", zei ze. Burgemeester Halsema noemde het een 'behoorlijk historisch' moment. "Het Koningshuis verbindt zich heel nadrukkelijk aan de queercommunity en aan de Pride en dat is in deze tijd hartstikke belangrijk. Dus ik was koningin Máxima heel dankbaar dat ze hier is vandaag." De stoet met deelnemers aan de Pride Walk kwam rond 13.00 uur aan in het Vondelpark. Het park heet vanwege de WorldPride vandaag het Pride Park. In het park staan onder meer twee podia met muziek. Ook vinden er activiteiten als dragwedstrijden, schminken en glittercompetities plaats. Met concerten, tochten, straatfeesten en de botenparade wordt dit jaar de WorldPride gevierd.
