War, plague, the Great Fire, and the beheading of Kings Charles I. This is the tumultuous legacy of The Stuart Kings. Four Kings from the house of Stuart sat on the English throne from 1603 to 1688. It was a time of great religious struggle and political instability. The Gunpowder Plot nearly wiped out King James I. The Thirty Years' War broke out on the continent. A civil war erupted that led to the public beheading of King Charles I and the birth of a commonwealth headed by Oliver Cromwell. London was ravaged by the Plague and The Great Fire of London. 00:00 King James I 44:00 King Charles I 01:24:36 King Charles II 2:07:04 King James II Welcome to Chronicle; your home for all things medieval history! We have no real metaphor for their power – if the sun were to magically go supernova it would feel like you were being hit by the energy of a nuclear explosion, every second. For weeks. While supernovae are the engines of creation, forging the elements that enable life, they also burn sterile whole regions of galaxies. So what would happen if one hit earth? This video version of previously released The Burning Archive audio podcast is part of my retrospective playlist on the conflict in Ukraine. I think the content stands up, even though I am posting to Youtube in November 2022. This series of podcasts is exploring the unfolding crisis of the conflict in Ukraine, security in Europe, the NATO v Russia war, and the emergence of the multipolar world. This episode (recorded on 12 March) looks at different names and mental models for the conflict - invasion, war of choice, Cold War II, incursion, special military operation and Cold War III. And it makes the case for thinking of this conflict as the first episode in the Wars of the Anglo-American Succession. Plus cameos from biolabs, Kamala Harris, MK Bhadrakhumar, the Saker and much much more. Events are unfolding quickly and a major information war is under way. Take care all and remember what thou lovest well will not be reft from thee. You can find all my content at https://linktr.ee/burningarchive

Comparing is a losing game. Instead of judging ourselves by looking at other players, it makes more sense to compare where we are with where we were in the past. For the third consecutive year, a global coalition of trade unions and political organisations, including DiEM25, will stand together against Amazon on Black Friday. This day of action will see strikes and protests take place around the world calling for an end to Amazon’s squeeze on workers, communities and the planet. It once seemed like Amazon was simply too big to be fought effectively by workers and the Left. But recent initiatives such as Make Amazon Pay, and this year’s successful union drive in the US, have slowly but surely started to make dents in the giant corporation’s armour. How can we use Amazon’s global presence against them to support these campaigns across borders, and what does the fight against Amazon tell us about our struggle against capitalism more broadly? Our panel, including Yanis Varoufakis, Dusan Pajovic and Amir Kiyaei, debates. Join us live and send us your questions and comments! I speak with historian Tobias Harper about about the evolving and growing role of the British crown as the head of the voluntary sector in a neoliberal, atomizing, and celebrity-driven society. We examine both the "magic of the royal touch" and the hard-nosed bureaucratic calculations that it can serve to obscure, as captured in Toby's book, "From Servants of the Empire to Everyday Heroes: The British Honours System in the Twentieth Century." Electric planes are already here. But they don't look like I thought... If you want more optimistic stories about technology, subscribe to support our show! Are electric planes possible? And if so, when are they coming?? Turns out, they’re already here. For this episode of Huge If True, I went to visit an electric plane company called Beta. Before the shoot, I thought the weight of batteries basically meant electric planes weren’t that useful, and wouldn’t be for a long time. What I learned is that in the last 10 years, we’ve gotten a lot better at making batteries (look at your phone!). Those gains mean electric planes are starting to do more. And that’s a big deal - for carbon emissions and climate change, but also for redesigning how planes look and fly. The future of aviation will look very different than the planes you take today. I couldn’t fly in one of the electric planes (trust me, I tried!), but I did get up in the air another way… To support Huge If True, please consider subscribing: https://www.youtube.com/cleoabram?sub_confirmation=1 Chapters: 00:00 Electric planes are here 00:56 Why are electric planes important? 02:16 Why are there no electric planes? 03:36 How do electric planes work? 05:52 What do electric planes look like? 06:42 What is VTOL? 07:48 How do electric planes slow climate change? 09:14 What is the future of airplanes? ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=Giuliani_Le_papillon_Op_50_No_13_Free_Classical_Guitar_Sheet_Music&utm_content=8Ge75ox6HBQ If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

This video version of previously released The Burning Archive audio podcast is part of my retrospective playlist on the conflict in Ukraine. I think the content stands up, even though I am posting to Youtube in November 2022. This series of podcasts is exploring the unfolding crisis of the war in Ukraine, security in Europe, and the NATO vs Russia War. This episode (recorded on 9 March, Melbourne time) explores the revelations that the USA has operated over 30 Biolabs in Ukraine, the American concerns about Russian control of those facilities and what records may reveal about compliance with bans on biological and chemical weapons, and the role of Victoria Nuland in domestic "democratic" Ukrainian politics. Stay sane all. Events are unfolding quickly and a major information war is under way. Take care all and remember what thou lovest well will not be reft from thee. 4. CREDIT00 Writers on Wax: The Sound of Graffiti Volume 2 is a compilation album with 8 exclusive tracks featuring 8 (in)famous graffiti writers: BLADE, DELTA & SJAMSOEDIN, CREDIT00 a.k.a. THE FOO, DUDES, COCA82, CEMOS, CHAZE and KAPI ONE. 'Bad Man Time' is the title of the electro-ambient-power track created by CREDIT00 a.k.a. THE FOO for this release. For more than a decade CREDIT00 has shaken electronic sounds, stirring shapes and forms, and painting streets and trains. It was through hip-hop-culture in the early 90's that he realized that you don't need a degree or need to know how to play an instrument to create. The album is available in a regular edition with obi strip and as a special limited-edition album cover with red marbled vinyl. Writers on Wax: The Sound of Graffiti is a series of vinyl records that bring to life the development surrounding the phenomenon graffiti, with graffiti writers producing music under their alter egos. The project Writers on Wax: The Sound of Graffiti Volume 2 is proudly sponsored by @montanacolorstv . The album will be released on 1 December in the @MuseumofGraffiti during Miami Art Week, in combination with an exhibition of artists featured on the Writers on Wax vinyl series.
