Als geboren en getogen Amsterdammers hebben de twee broers alles zien veranderen op de Zeedijk, waar de eerste vestiging van het restaurant werd geopend. Het restaurant staat bekend om hun Cantonese keuken en in het bijzonder de ‘Oesters van Nam Kee’, dat ook de titel werd van de roman van Kees van Beijnum in het jaar 2000. De roman werd een paar jaar later verfilmd met Katja Schuurman in de hoofdrol. He had a special bicycle made so the steering can be locked so it only turns in one direction, or locked so it doesn’t turn at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cNmUNHSBac The conclusion of this video is that steering is the most important thing for balancing on a bicycle – essentially you steer to catch yourself as the bike tips in either direction, and bicycles can also steer to stay upright by themselves due to the geometry of the front wheel and steering position which leads in front of the pivot point. With the steering locked, it’s impossible to balance for any length of time, even if you want to ride in a straight line. But what about if we make a bike with two wheels that steer? It seems like it would still steer and balance ok if the wheels rotated in opposite directions so they steer in the same direction, but what about if they rotated in the same direction so you could drift sideways – would you still be able to balance? In het format Stadsverfraaiers portretteren we personen die de stad letterlijk een stukje mooier maken. Deze keer is dat Anan Striker. Anan is kunstenaar en houdt zich onder andere bezig met tekenen, lithografie, typografie en is ook tapejockey. Als kleine jongen droomde hij er altijd al van om met tekenen zijn geld te kunnen verdienen. Dat is hem gelukt. Een aantal jaar geleden kreeg hij bij de Amsterdamse delizaak Stach een paar stiften in z’n hand gedrukt met de vraag of hij iets op de ruit kon maken. Dat kon ‘ie wel. Sindsdien zijn Stach en Anan’s herkenbare ruitenkunst onafscheidelijk. Anan krijgt vrijheid in het werk dat hij voor Stach maakt, maar probeert wel altijd een link te leggen met de locatie waar de winkel zich bevindt en ervoor te zorgen dat wat hij tekent ook herkenbaar is. Zo moet een croissantje voor het grote publiek ook herkenbaar zijn als een croissantje, terwijl zijn eigen werk juist vaak abstracter is. Eigen werk Als Amsterdammer zal je Anan echter niet zo snel bij Stach spotten, omdat hij als ‘een soort ninja’ te werk gaat. In zijn eigen werk neemt hij daarentegen meer de tijd. In het atelier van Aad Hekker, toevallig om de Hoek bij de Stach op de Spiegelstraat, maakt Anan onder andere litho’s. Dit is een lang en intensief proces. Zo duurt alleen het slijpen van de steen hiervoor is al zo’n drie kwartier: “Dit is altijd een soort meditatie, het slijpen. Je kan ook nergens anders mee bezig zijn, je kan niet even op je telefoon zitten, je moet het slijpproces gewoon doorzetten. … Waarom ik dit doe is gewoon om de tijd te verlangzamen. Want die tijd is al zo snel. En het leven is heel snel. En als ik hier ben kom ik tot rust en dan komen ook de ideeën. En die komen niet als ik in de hectiek zit. Madrasana came together with Vinay Varanasi and Sivasri Skandaprasad to recreate this walk to the temple of Krishna, in Bangalore! Series: MadRasana Narratorium | Narrative Concert Artist Vocal : Sivasri Skandaprasad Narrator : Vinay Varanasi Harmonium : Chandrashekar Mridangam : Adamya Ramanand On the morning of āshāda ekādashi, ( July 10th, 2022) Vinay and Sivasri were joined by Jaidev Haridos and Chandrashekhar , and they shared stories of Nāmdev, sung abhangs and compositions as they walked through the temples of Malleswaram. They were joined by several enthusiastic participants, who sang along and keenly listened to the stories of Nāmdev, a Marathi saint. This event was a precursor to a deeper exploration of Nāmdev's journey of bhakti. This walk was followed by a Concert on July 22nd at Bangalore International Center. This concert is also available on youtube. Please note this video was shot hand held and so you may find some shakes. The audio may also have some street noise during the walk.
