Genuinely surprised at the amount of sounds you can make with a bow, and the amount of things that work with a bow is crazy too. In this video I use a cello bow to make sounds with a bike wheel, bowed marimba, fire extinguisher, various found percussion and (junk percussion), scrap metal, singing saw, lamp, watering can, and shovel. DiDi is a Chinese Ride Hailing app that raised $4.4bn in its listing on the New York Stock exchange this Wednesday. This was the biggest Chinese listing in the US since Alibaba listed seven years ago. The stock initially rallied, then two days later news broke that the Chinese regulators are investigating the company. They say they are doing this “in order to maintain national security and protect the public interest.” The stock fell 5.3 per cent on Friday to $15.52 on this announcement. The Cyberspace Administration of China then went on to announce today that Didi’s app had “problems of seriously violating laws on collecting and using personal information”. They ordered that Didi be taken down from Chinese app stores. These actions are all based on China’s new cyber security review system, which is about a year old. This will be a detailed step by step video covering the entire process and since we’re opening up the transmission we’ll also be rebuilding the transmission along the way so I’ll be showing you that as well. I’ll be showing you the LSD install and transmission overhaul on a Toyota E51 transmission but the process is very similar for all other front wheel drive or mid-engined manual transmissions. Obviously to install an LSD into this type of transmission you will need to get the gearbox out of the car. In case of my mr2 the easiest way to get the gearbox out is to get it out together with the engine. This means that the optimal time for doing LSD installs is when you’re doing transmission and/or engine rebuilds as you’ll be killing two birds with one stone like this. Once the transmission is out the first thing I usually do is to clean it. Transmissions often have years of drit, grease and other contaminants on them and you want them cleaned away before doing any work on the transmission because if you don’t clean them you will get everything else dirty and just spread the dirt around. Once cleaned it’s time to get the transmission onto a working surface and drain any oil from it. We’re going to start by popping out the axle stubs. Next we remove the clutch fork and start taking the transmission apart. First we remove the three bolts inside the bell-housing. After that we remove the gear selector levers, and then the gear selector shaft itself To proceed with the transmission rebuild we must unbolt and remove the transmission top cover. Then we remove the snap ring on top of the input shaft and after that the shift fork together with the fifth gear sleeve. Next we need to remove the hub that sits on top of the fifth gear synchro on the input shaft. Fortunately the fifth gear on the output shaft has a nice big lip on it so after a bit of heat a regular claw type gear puller gets it off with relative ease. After we remove the shaft retainer plate it's time to remove the three snap rings that hold the shift fork shafts in place. After that we’ll unbolt the middle casing and lift it off from the rest of the gearbox. Now the output shaft, the differential and the shift forks together with the input shaft can easily come out. Once everything is clean inside the transmission we start by removing the old output shaft bearing. Here you can see how the old bearing has lost its shine. The non-shiny parts have lost their surface hardness and such a bearing is no longer usable. We then install the new plastic oil squirter and then the new bearing shell gets gently hammered it. Next it’s time to install the Quaife limited slip differential. Here you can see the Quaife LSD side by side with the stock open differential. We’re going to transfer both of the differential bearings and the ring gear from the stock differential to the Quaife. First we remove both of the differential bearings, and then we unbolt the ring gear, and finally gently hammer it off the stock differential. Next the ring bear bolts get thoroughly cleaned in gasoline, the differential bearings get pressed on to the LSD, the ring gear gets gently hammered on, the ring gear bolts get a dab of Loctite and then get bolted down using the weakest setting on the impact wrench. The final step is to torque them down. Next it’s time to replace the synchro. I’ll only be replacing the fourth gear synchro as it seems that someone replaced the first, second and third gear synchros together with the differential bearings during the last rebuild. Obviously to get to the synchro we need to remove some bearings and gears from the shaft. Once we replace the synchro we install everything in the reverse order of removal. FAQ) How did the machine know where the start of the announcement was? Did it use a foil splice or a cue tone - or was it something else? A) It’s just a loop of tape with an announcement repeated a number of times which has then been stuck together at the end with normal splicing tape to form a loop. No metal foil. No auto-triggering pulses. Just a simple repeated audio recording on a loop of tape. I double checked with Neil who dealt with these things for a living and he confirmed that there was ‘nothing clever going on, it was just a plain old loop of tape'. A caller ringing up would just start the machine playing back from the point at which the tape last stopped moving. That would more often than not be some way into an announcement. However back in the 1980s this was something we were very accustomed to. You’d ring up and if you heard an announcement you waited until it looped around back and started repeating and then you’d hang up. I remember doing this. It was only in the age of digital recording technology that we came to expect BT announcements to always start right from the beginning. Q) What kind of tape did this use A) Standard 1/4" tape. A helpful commenter mentioned that he used to record the announcements for these on a ReVox B77. Neil told me that in his job they received reels of the tape with the announcements pre recorded. They would splice off the amount they needed for the machines and then they threw the rest of the reel away. As a young apprentice when he saw how much tape was being binned - he went and bought himself a reel to reel tape recorder so he could save it from the bin to re-use at home. So yes it's totally normal R2R tape, it'll be one mil and a harder wearing variety. It might look a bit odd in the video - perhaps thicker than normal, but that's most likely because it's hardened up a bit over the decades of being stored off a roll in the top of a machine in a garage. This phenomenon is caused by Plasmon Resonance. There is a cloud of delocalized electrons flying around a metal, and these electrons can react in a coordinated manner to electromagnetic fields (like light). But when the surface of the metal is very small -- like in a nanoparticle -- the electron cloud is can begin to oscillate across the surface. If the wavelength of light is just right it will resonate with the electron cloud, and that wavelength of light is reflected while all others are transmitted or absorbed. This causes the particle to look a specific color. This property mostly applies to noble metals like Gold or Silver, and can be seen in the famous Lycurgus Cup. The nanoparticles were generated using a technique known as Laser Ablation in Liquid, or sometimes Laser Synthesis of Colloids. It uses a pulsed laser to ablate metal into a liquid, where the plasma and superheated material is rapidly quenched to form nanoparticles. This video explores the Errazuriz House designed in 1930 by Le Corbusier for a Chilean diplomat to Argentina. The house was intended for the mountains of Zapallar Chile overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its primary design feature, the uneven butterfly roof, was intended to reference the peaks and ridges of its surrounding terrain. This is the first instance of a butterfly roof, which would become a staple of post-war houses in California, built by the thousands. Finally, some 30 years on from his last outing Alex Kidd is back, in a remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World, titled Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. So no dramatic change there. The question is, does the game itself have any dramatic changes, or is this just a quick rehash of the Miracle World we knew and ̷h̷a̷t̷e̷d̷ loved. we got some friends together and went into this massive underground mine to explore inside. the water was incredibly deep and most of the time we couldn't see to the bottom leaving most of the mine unexplored. what's down there?.... while exploring we found a cracked kayak missing an owner... who's kayak did we find and how did it get there? After getting out of the mine several tires had been slashed on the vehicles in our group of explorers. someone wasn't happy about us trying to find out the answers....
