Will an Archimedes Screw work if the screw stays still, but the tube it's in turns? I set out to find out what happens, and I also looked for other commercial uses for this application. I 3D printed my screw which worked really well without any support material. After that it was just a matter of testing the Archimedes Screw drive to see what would happen as the tube was rotated in various ways. Initial results looked good so I went on to motorise the screw drive. Using a copper sulfate solution, we can etch glass with a pulsed laser like the relatively common Nd:YAG fiber lasers. The CuSO4 solution absorbs laser pulses, vaporizes and forms copper oxide on the surface of the glass. In turn, this oxide absorbs even more of the next laser pulse and generates small explosions of plasma which melt a few microns of glass. The process repeats until you are happy. This process is known as Laser-Induced Backside Wet Etching, and is used to machine micron-sized features such as microfluidics, microlens arrays, waveguides, microholes and photonic gratings. Episode 2 of my series on water ice! Admittedly this is probably the least interesting because it's some negative results, but it's not very scientific to only discuss successes right? In this video, I use a lens to melt ice from the inside out, exposing it's polycrystalline structure (and explain how it's different from a single crystal). With this partially-melted ice, I can do a bit of materials forensics, and actually figure out how it formed, hopefully so I can improve the process in the future! But I still think we can make some educational and entertaining content without the use of my accent infused voice. We'll start of with the review of this teching dm13-1 all metal engine model kit. I have to say that I'm extremely impressed with the visual impact of this thing. It really looks and feels a lot like a real engine in miniature form. All the individual pieces are really well made and there's zero cheapness. Even the box and the instructions are almost free of "engrish" and are very usable. The engine is very heavy and the engine block and cylinder head feel extremely solid and have a very impressive weight to them. This thing is a definitive conversation starter. I think it would absolutely shine on the desk of an executive of a business that works with cars and/or engines. It really looks the part. Even more so when you run it and you can observe all the moving parts. As an educational tool it's absolutely incredible. There's no need for vague or abstract explanations and weird hand gestures, this thing is the ultimate teaching aid. Now for the things I didn't like. The allen keys are too short and hard to use and reduce the satisfaction a bit. A few additional tools would be nice in the kit. I think the fact that you can't install spark plugs like on a real engine is a bit unrealistic. The head bolts are also unrealistic and should be longer. Thanks to a reissue of a Japanese 2018 Plug & Play TV Game I'm finally playing the PS2 Train Simulator, 'Densha de Go! Final'...fourteen years after this game first came out. ADDENDUMS: (CLICK 'SHOW MORE' below - Go on, do it, do it - I dare you). Initially I wondered whether the hardware in this could power a 'PS2 Classic'. However it’s been pointed out that it’s most likely running a custom version of the PC port of this game. Also it’s probably no longer the most polygon-capable plug & play console now that Sega’s Astro City Mini is out. That one can play Virtua Fighter. So forget I said anything. 2020 leaves behind much debris – pain, fear, broken lives, smashed dreams. But, we also owe a debt of gratitude to 2020: It has helped expose seven fundamental secrets. We used to think of governments as powerless. But since COVID-19 struck we know better: Governments have stupendous powers that they hitherto chose not to use, deferring to the exorbitant power of Big Business. Yes, the money-tree does exist after all. Except, of course, that is only harvested by the powerful on behalf of the oligarchy: Money created by the rich for the rich. Solvency is a political decision because power-politics, not markets, decide who is bankrupt and who is not. Wealth has nothing to do with hard work or entrepreneurship. America’s billionaires made 931 billion dollars from the pandemic. They got richer in their sleep. Yes, 2020 was a vintage year for capitalists, but capitalism died! Liberated from any remaining competition, colossal platform companies like Amazon own everything. So, yes, during 2020, Capitalism morphed into an insidious Techno feudalism. Our Europe, its civilisation and power notwithstanding, continued to sell its soul in 2020. One word suffices: Moria, the refuges prison camp in Lesbos – a mirror reflecting Europe’s cruelty and lost soul. Yes, it has been a difficult year. We lost too many people to the pandemic. We saw exploitation flourish, driving so many into the embrace of destitution. Civil liberties took a major hit. But, despite it all, 2020 let us in on a brilliant, hope-inspiring seventh secret: Everything could be different. If this pandemic proved anything, it is that Bertolt Brecht was right when he once said: “Because things are the way they are, things will not remain the way they are.” I can think of no greater source of hope than this. We must thank 2020 for it. Now, it is up to us to make 2021 a year of radical change in the interests of the many. Everywhere! These were iron ore cart tunnels that were built very late 1800's and used until around 1920 for an iron mine. to see one of the iron mines that this tunnel system was bringing ore from check out this video here: https://studio.youtube.com/video/X6VrgjJ0H6Q/edit these tunnels go straight through the mountains along the estelle mines trail, on pigeon mountain in GA and were pretty much back to back. there is a final tunnel we did not enter because the close side was collapsed. a hike over the mountain would bring you to the open side. there is also one more tunnel that is along the road that takes you to the hiking trail for the tunnels that one is the longest and the video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNHttOPSoeY&t=2s

The British Museum has an extensive collection of textiles from Palestine including full outfits. As part of the Museum's International Training Programme (ITP) and in collaboration with the Palestinian Exploration Fund (PEF), fashion designer Omar Nasser Khouri has been researching the collection and drawing inspiration from these beautiful fabrics, finding out more about embroidery and embellishment techniques and what they say about the society that originated them. We believe this is the Northeast Estelle Mine Tunnel in North Georgia. there are 5 more tunnels back to back on a hiking trail very close to here. those tunnels can be seen at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeaTzFU4F2A&t=39s This tunnel was very long and pitch black. The roof seemed very unstable like it was falling in sheets.
