Going through a list of tips Thelonious Monk gave young saxophonist Steve Lacy! Let's go, baby. Brian Krock's channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsIr0hSU_dXij7ZEnGSa2ew The TIPS - Just because you’re not a drummer, doesn’t mean that you don’t have to keep time. - Pat your foot and sing the melody in your head when you play. - Stop playing all that bulls***, those weird notes, play the melody! - Make the drummer sound good. - Discrimination is important. - You’ve got to dig it to dig it, you dig? - All reet! - Always know - It must be always night, otherwise they wouldn’t need the lights. - Let’s lift the band stand!! - I want to avoid the hecklers. - Don’t play the piano part, I am playing that. Don’t listen to me, I am supposed to be accompanying you! - The inside of the tune (the bridge) is the part that makes the outside sound good. - Don’t play everything (or everytime); let some things go by. Some music just imagined. - What you don’t play can be more important than what you do play. - A note can be small as a pin or as big as the world, it depends on your imagination. - Stay in shape! Sometimes a musician waits for a gig & when it comes, he’s out of shape & can’t make it. - When you are swinging, swing some more! - (What should we wear tonight?) Sharp as possible! - Always leave them wanting more. - Don’t sound anybody for a gig, just be on the scene. - Those pieces were written so as to have something to play & to get cats interested enough to come to rehearsal! - You’ve got it! If you don’t want to play, tell a joke or dance, but in any case, you got it! (to a drummer who didn’t want to solo). - Whatever you think can’t be done, somebody will come along & do it. A genius is the one most like himself. Invented by Edwin Link in 1929, the Link Trainer was the world's first mass-produced flight simulator, and was instrumental in training aircrew during the Second World War. A surprisingly sophisticated machine for its day, the Link used a combination of pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems to simulate nearly condition a pilot would encounter during actual flight. In this very special episode, I am joined by Link restorer Nick Reeder as we delve into the fascinating inner workings of this forgotten piece of aviation tech. I'm an avid surfer, and have been wanting to make a video about the physics of surfing for a long time! There's an art to catching a big wave without crashing, and in this video I explain the physical principles that enable all of it! A surfer harvests energy from a wave, effectively by positioning themselves on a moving ramp with very little friction - or really sort of directional friction, as I'll explain in the video. Once standing on a wave, you can play a lot of games with the angle of the board to change direction and accelerate, sometimes actually going faster across the water than the wave you're riding! The footage showing angled motion on a wave comes courtesy of my brand new quadcopter which will surely be appearing in many videos in the future! shareable GIFs: https://gfycat.com/coarsefamiliarkoi Music and stuff: I Dunno by grapes is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) http://ccmixter.org/files/grapes/16626 Pink Lemonade by Silent Partner is licensed under a Creative Commons license Image credits: Still from Mythbusters Clip "Riding a Shockwave" https://go.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/videos/riding-a-shockwave Bell X-1 rocket-powered experimental aircraft - public domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_X-1#/media/File:Bell_X-1_46-062_(in_flight).jpg Wingsuit jump by Wingsuiting https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wingsuit_Flying_over_Langar_Airfield_UK.jpg Fin hat from Margaritaville Caribbean Shop https://margaritavillecaribbeanshop.com/collections/hats/products/margaritaville-fins-up-shark-hat #physics #surfing #waves

The first episode is set in the Wild West and begins with the sublime art of the Hudson River School, whose 19th-century evocations of the vastness of America did so much to fuel the myth of the promised land. Another huge influence was the mysterious rock art of Native Americans, which set a stirring precedent for non-naturalistic painting. The film culminates in a celebration of Jackson Pollock, born in Cody, Wyoming, who arrived in New York wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, and whose famous drip paintings were influenced heavily by both the moods of the American west and the example of Native American artists. AEM SS MAP sensors: https://bit.ly/d4a-map-sensors AEM SS Pressure (Gauge) sensors: https://bit.ly/d4a-pressure-sensors AEM boost controllers: http://bit.ly/D4AtruboostX AEM ECU: http://bit.ly/D4Ainfinity5 AEM wideband AFR gauge: http://bit.ly/D4Axserieswb Let's start with the basics. Air pressure or more specifically atmospheric air pressure. As we know, earth's atmosphere is filled with air. We are born and we die in this atmosphere, it's our natural environment, and this is why we don't really notice or feel the weight or the mass of air. But air most definitely has a weight and a mass. All that air, the entire atmosphere, weighs about 5 million billion tons! So how come we don't get crushed by it? We don’t get crushed because all that weight is distributed evenly over the entire surface of the Earth. The average pressure you feel on your body is about 14.7 psi or 1 bar. But because you can't escape this pressure, and unless you've been to outer space, you never actually spent even a moment of your time without this pressure, you don't really feel it as you can't reference how it would feel without this pressure. So what do you think, what's the place where you can feel the least amount of atmospheric pressure without leaving the earth? That's the top of Mount Everest of course, the highest point on earth. The highest point has the lowest pressure because it has the least amount of atmosphere above it, the least amount of air weight above it. The highest atmospheric pressure you can experience on earth if at sea level and the lowest is at the peak of mount Everest. But you can also experience very low atmospheric pressure if you contract a virus like Covid 19 and they put you into an isolation room. Many isolation rooms are actually negative pressure rooms. Inside a negative pressure room, the air pressure is artificially maintained at a pressure lower than outside the room, a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure. This is usually done with exhaust system that suck out the air of the room. Because the pressure inside the negative air pressure room is lower than outside it, the contaminated air doesn't come out of the room when you open the door. Instead, clean air from the outside comes into it because air, like all fluids, always flows from a higher pressure area towards a lower pressure area. Do you know what else works on the same principle as an isolation room inside a hospital? The cylinder inside your engine! When the piston moves down inside your cylinder it creates a vacuum, or an absence of pressure. The cylinder moves down the bore at extremely high speeds and as it moves down it rapidly creates this void, or empty space, that for an extremely brief moment, has no air it, and as such is at a lower pressure than atmospheric pressure. But a turbo or a supercharger is capable of generating significant additional air pressure, and the air pressure inside the intake manifold of a forced induction engine can be double or triple that of atmospheric air pressure. When you're looking at a boost gauge mounted inside a vehicle you're looking ONLY at the boost pressure generated by the turbo or supercharger. This means that a boost gauge isn't showing the actual pressure inside the intake manifold. It's showing the pressure inside the intake manifold - minus the atmospheric pressure. When you expose a boost gauge to atmospheric pressure it's going to show a value of zero. This is because a boost gauge and it's sensor are referenced to atmospheric pressure. The reason behind this is that you're only interested in what additional pressure your turbo or supercharger is generating, the pressure it ADDS on top of the atmospheric pressure, because that's what boost is, you're boosting your engine's power by adding more pressure than could be generated by natural aspiration i.e. the pressure of the atmosphere. But things are different from the perspective of your engine's ECU. The ECU is interested in ALL of the pressure, both from the atmosphere and the pressure added by forced induction. It's needs to know all the pressure because it's trying to match all of the air mass with the correct amount of fuel. So the MAP sensor that reads pressure inside the intake manifold and feeds data to the ECU is referenced to absolute zero pressure. If you were to expose this sensor to the atmosphere it would read around 14.7 psi at sea level. So boost pressure equals manifold absolute pressure - atmospheric pressure. and manifold absolute pressure is: boost pressure + atmospheric pressure. 00:00 Atmospheric pressure 05:00 NA, Forced induction and Elevation 07:56 Boost pressure vs MAP 10:34 Stainless steel vs brass 12:22 MAP vs MAF in tuned boosted engines A special thank you to my patrons: Daniel Peter Della Flora Daniel Morgan William Richard Pepe Brian Durning D4A merch: https://teespring.com/en-GB/d4a-merch Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/d4a #d4a #boostschool #underpressure

Rococo: The "Crude" Art Of Pleasure (Waldemar Januszczak Documentary) | Perspective Subscribe and click the bell icon to get more arts content every week: youtube.com/c/PerspectiveArts Waldemar looks at the pursuit of pleasure in the Rococo age, to which a huge amount of cultural energy was devoted. For the first time in history, pleasure and happiness were seen as unalienable human rights that everyone was free to pursue and is reflected so poignantly in the art of Boucher, Watteau, Gainsborough and Tiepolo. In its boundless search for delight it often went too far, but, put crudely, Rococo art stopped tasting like medicine and started tasting like cakes. Following the grandeur of Baroque, Rococo art is often dismissed as frivolous and unserious, but Waldemar Januszczak disagrees. In this three-part series he re-examines Rococo art and argues that the Rococo was actually the age in which the modern world was born. Picking three key territories of Rococo achievement - travel, pleasure and madness - Waldemar celebrates the finest cultural achievements of the period and examine the drives and underlying meanings that make them so prescient. This is conservation is always fulfilled if Einstein's field equations are fulfilled by way of the (contracted) Bianchi identities. I am talking about the conservation of the four-momentum (the integrated quantity) that is associated with the warp-drive bubble. In an asymptotically flat space-time, it should be conserved.
